Evidence of bacterial contamination at different locations of the Central Abattoir Akinyele, Oyo State

Carcass and products derived from any abattoir are declared safe fit for human consumption only if the maximum bacterial contamination limit is not exceeded. This study was designed to compare level of at different points Akinyele Central Abattoir, Oyo State. Samples were collected drains, floors, walls, soil water sources microbiological analysis. The results presented varying degrees sampled due identifying Salmonella sp., Escherichia coli, Campylobacter Clostridium Staphylococcus all public health importance. However, had highest total load 6.158±0.132 ×105/cfu/ml, followed by slaughter floor (5.008±0.176 ×105/cfu/ml) source (4.650±0.109 ×105/cfu/ml). demonstrated that hygiene sanitary levels have been compromised. It hereby recommended proper hygienic precautionary measures should be instituted implemented this abattoir.
